Stage 4

Creede to Silverton:

85 miles 17.5k ft. of elevation gain

The day begins in Creede. Take a series of dirt roads out of town to Miner Creek Trail. This trail has some serious exposure and technical moves.  As you climb out of the trees the trail can be wet so use caution in wet conditions.  The top of the trail is extremely steep, stay on trail and use teamwork if needed.  When the trail flattens near a small pond it joins the Colorado Trail/Continental Dive Trail. This is a very special place for us to be allowed to ride motorcycles, stay on the trail, go slow, be very courteous to hikers, you may be the first person they are seeing after several weeks on trail.

Drop down to cross Highway 149. Stay on CT for several more miles before turning onto Sawmill Park Road.  At the turn for Cinnamon Pass you can continue North on Highway 149 a couple of miles to Lake City for fuel & food. From Cinnamon Pass Road turn left for Wager Gulch, a steep rocky ATV trail.  This continues to Lost Trail. At the trail head enter singletrack onto Pole Creek Trail.  This trail climbs above treeline and again be extremely cautious to stay on trail in the Tundra, it can take a lifetime for the grass to grow back in this area.

Drop down Pole Creek to Stony Pass. Climb up the pass to drop down the other side towards Silverton. Turn left on CR 2 which brings you to town.  Silverton has fuel, food, & lodging.  Another great lodging option is to continue 10 more miles on route to Opus Hut (food included in reservation).  Leave your motorcycle in the flat car parking area. The hut is a quick but steep 1/4 mile hike from the parking area. You will want to fill up gas all of the way in Silverton.
