Silver Cliff to Sargents:
118 miles 23k ft. of elevation gain
The day begins in Silver Cliff where you head west to continue Rainbow Trail. If you require services early you can exit rainbow early at Bear Creek (CR 101) or CR 108 to Salida. At Highway 285 you will drop into Poncha Springs (Mile 77) with full services.
From town you go West on 50 for a few miles before turning off to climb Greens Creek. You will then join Monarch Crest Trail and turn off after many miles towards Big Bend Creek which will drop you off in Sargents. This town offers fuel, food, and lodging at Tomichi Creek Trading Post, our favorite stop on the route. They also accept resupply packages via Fedex & UPS. If you call ahead to Dotty's Towing & Repair in Sargents (neighbor to Tomichi Creek) you may be able to arrange using their property for bike maintenance. Note: No maintenance can be performed on Tomichi Creek Trading Post property.

Cautions:
Mile 8 - Use caution near all trailheads on Rainbow Trail, there will be many hikers using these connectors to other trails.
Mile 30 - This section of Rainbow was rerouted. Cross and follow the creek to the road, the rerouted section is on the left after crossing a gate. The GPX file does not accurately follow the trail as the reroute renters Rainbow but the trail is very obvious here.
Mile 41 - Hayden Pass area is busy with hikers
Mile 56-62 - High traffic hiker & biker area!
Mile 84-108 - Greens Creek and the crest through Big Bend will have heavy hiker & biker traffic!
